Wirkn receives $400,000 in funding, brings on Derek Szeto as CEO

Wirkn is working it. The Toronto-based company claims to be “the world’s first end-to-end mobile employment solution designed to help youth join the workplace and to help employers better connect with the mobile generation.”

It’s app is ‘coming soon’ to iTunes and gives users the ability to create a video profile that gives them the ability to “Show Your Personality” to apply for employment — certainly a different direction that rivals Workopolis and Monster with the standard job postings. The app goes beyond getting hired and encourages “building meaningful connections with your coworkers and your larger work community.” See shift alerts, new employer matches and more.”

Wirkn was founded by Francois Jobin and announced its received $400,000 in funding from Kinetic Companies and a group of private angel investors. The company has also hired Derek Szeto, Founder of RedFlagDeals.com, as its CEO. In addition, Anthony Chan, formerly VP of Consumer and Digital Marketing at MasterCard Worldwide, will join the company and act as Wirkn’s General Manager.

“Helping today’s youth kick-start the earliest stages of their careers and develop their skills in a mobile-first format is an inspiring mission,” says Szeto. “We’re also tackling a major problem that businesses around the world face today with recruiting, retaining and engaging today’s young mobile-centric workforce.”

Wirkn will be available in select local markets in October.
