Vancouver-based Wiivv, which creates 3D-printed custom gear, has broken the record as the most funded 3D-printed product on Kickstarter with its custom fit sandals.

The company launched its custom fit sandals just under a month ago, and has since reached its $250,000 funding goal with 2,500 backers. The company is now aiming for a stretch goal of $600,000.

Its first insole product, BASE, was formerly the most-funded 3D-printed product in Kickstarter history.

“Hitting our goal tells me that customers want custom products,” said Shamil Hargovan, CEO and co-founder of Wiivv. “We set out to prove that they want this new category of footwear and clearly they do. This is the second time we’ve gone to Kickstarter and set the record for the most-funded 3D printed product. This backing, plus our 15,000-plus Custom Fit 3D Printed Insole customers, proves this market is here to stay.”

Using over 200 data points on each foot captured on an iOS or Android camera, Wiivv’s tech uses computer algorithms to pinpoint the unique length, width, and arch support of each customer’s feet and build a customized shoe.

Wiivv is set to begin shipping its custom fit sandal in August 2017.
