Halifax-based Volta has opened applications for its Volta Academy, which helps founders at the idea stage build a business.

The tech hub just wrapped up its first session this week, and provided 18 participants from age from 15 to 55 over 36 hours of training. The Volta Academy program lets participants work with Volta founders and mentors to validate their idea, outline an MVP, and grow a scalable startup.

“Participants came from a variety of specialties, some had early-stage companies, while others just had great ideas,” Jenn Earle, a spokesperson with Volta, told Entrevestor. “There were SaaS solutions for agencies, the music industry, education, financial planning, legal, and insurance. Others had hardware solutions to help with medication adherence, carpal tunnel, and efficient solar electric vehicle charging.”

Applications are open until January 17. Applicants accepted will be notified on January 23, with the first session starting on February 5.
