Six Canadian organizations have brought on new team members to add to their teams, including Hootsuite, Goodfood, Thentia, HR4, Crypto4A, and the Southeastern Ontario Angel Network. Here’s a breakdown of who is joining, and what they bring to the table.
Manish Kamra joins Hootsuite as SVP of software development
Vancouver-based social media management firm Hootsuite has announced that Manish Kamra has joined the company as senior vice president of software development.
In the new role, Kamra will focus on establishing Hootsuite’s long-term technology development strategy and execution plan. Specifically, he will evaluate emerging technologies and engineering practices with a strategic focus on partnerships and potential acquisitions. He will also manage corporate research and development for production operations and security.
Prior to joining Hootsuite, Kamra held the titles of vice president of software development and head of CENX product development at Ericsson. Kamra has also held senior leadership roles leading high-performance software development teams and strategy at tech firms, including Blackberry, Intel, and Optiva.
Mike Amos named new head of Southeastern Ontario Angel Network
The Southeastern Ontario Angel Network (SOAN) has appointed Mike Amos to the position of managing director. Amos replaces founding CEO John Molloy, who retired in March after serving as SOAN managing director since the network’s inception six years ago.
Previously, Amos founded venture-backed software company Empathica, which raised $16 million in venture funding, grew to 180 employees in three countries, and was acquired by InMoment.
In the role of managing director, Amos is responsible for enhancing SOAN’s initiatives in addition to splitting his time between investing in and advising startups.
SOAN was created to facilitate the mobilization of investments from accredited investors into companies being created in Southeastern Ontario.
James Kurz joins as CFO of Thentia Cloud
Toronto-based government software startup Thentia Cloud has named James Kurz as its new chief financial officer. Kurz is now leading the next phase of Thentia’s growth, which involves executing the company’s go-to-market strategy to increase its position in the United States. The startup’s goal is to become a state-supported software vendor for agency licensing across all 50 states.
Kurz most recently held the role of CFO and COO at Doctor.com, a venture-backed healthcare and SaaS company, where he helped lead the company’s acquisition by Press Ganey earlier this year.
Thentia Cloud aims to help government agencies improve user experiences and increase visibility into their own operations, by speeding up, simplifying, and automating the data and license management process. The new CFO appointment follows Thentia’s recent Series B equity investment, through which the firm raised $10 million led by New York City-based Spring Mountain Capital.
Goodfood appoints Jonathan Roiter to CFO
Montréal-based online grocery and meal kit delivery company Goodfood has tapped Jonathan Roiter for the role of CFO. Roiter will officially enter the role on June 7.
Roiter moves into the new position with over 25 years of experience in creating financial roadmaps for companies. He most recently was senior vice president at Gildan Activewear, where he led the corporate development and finance functions. He also spent five years at Ace Bakery as CFO and COO.
Roiter joins Goodfood at a time of growth for the publicly traded tech company. The company recently recorded $100.7 million in quarterly revenue, a new milestone. The firm also reached a record cash position in the second quarter of $163 million.
Roiter replaces former CFO Philippe Adam, who left Goodfood to join Pomerleau, a Québec construction firm.
HR4 appoints Jay Hedges as CEO
London, Ontario-based software startup HR4 has appointed Jay Hedges as the company’s first CEO to help guide HR4 in its next stage of growth.
Heather Macpherson, who has led HR4 until now as founder and president, plans to remain active in the company as president and head of product, while also serving on the board.
Hedges helped lead growth at several software firms, including Roadmunk, Avanti, Vision Critical, Uberflip, and Citrix.
HR4 was founded in 2013 and offers a suite of applications aimed to help businesses maximize profitability. HR4 claims to help over 250 automotive dealers and other businesses improve their bottom-line by an estimated $10,000 per employee per year.
John Scott joins as CEO of Crypto4A
Crypto4A Technologies, an Ottawa-based cybersecurity startup, has appointed John Scott as its new CEO.
Scott replaces Bruno Couillard, who founded Crypto4A in 2016 and has served in the roles of CEO and CTO at the startup. Following Scott’s appointment, Couillard is dedicating his time to the role of CTO.
Scott served as chair of Crypto4A for several years prior to his CEO appointment. As CEO, Scott is responsible for working with the founders of Crypto4A to help position the company and its offerings for market adoption and growth.
Crypto4A offers quantum-ready cybersecurity solutions aimed to simplify and improve protection for the cloud, loT, blockchain, government, and military application deployments. The startup was founded in 2016.
