Shopify merchants made $1.5 billion USD on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

In the wake of this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday, ecommerce platform Shopify has released their stats surrounding digital purchases in the time period spanning these two dates.

According to data captured from Friday November 23 to end of day on Monday November 26, Shopify merchants generated over $1.5 billion USD in total sales throughout the weekend – over $37 million USD sales per hour at the peak. Peak orders per minute hit 10,978, and peak sales per minute hit $870,000.

The company noted that $83.09 USD was the average shopping cart order price, and 66 percent of sales from Shopify merchants were made on mobile (compared to 34 percent made on desktop).

The United States was listed as the top purchasing country on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend, with California leading the way as the top state for purchases. Canada came in third place, after the UK.

The top city in the world for Shopify shopping was New York City, followed by London and Los Angeles.

Packages from Shopify merchants will be shipped over 30 billion miles, with 18.54 percent of orders being shipped internationally. Shopify has a total of 600,000 merchants on the platform.
