According to a new report by Indeed Canada, the highest paying jobs in Canada’s major tech hubs are related to software engineering.
The job site compiled a list of the 10 highest-paying tech jobs in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver as of June 2018. The salaries listed were estimated from employees, users, and past and present job advertisements on Indeed.com.
Indeed said it analyzed Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver because these cities have the most tech job opportunities in the country. The report indicates that these three cities are home to 51 percent of all of Canada’s tech jobs, with 29 percent of all Canadian tech job opportunities found in Toronto, 15 percent in Montreal, and seven percent in Vancouver.
“In a tight labour market, and especially in the tech industry where we see a talent shortage, it’s important for employers to stay competitive.”
Among the top three highest paying jobs in Toronto were software engineering manager, software architect, and development operations engineer. In Montreal, the top three highest paying jobs included software architect, programmer, and development operations engineer; and in Vancouver, the top three highest paying jobs included software engineer manager, software architect, and senior software engineer.

“In a tight labour market, and especially in the tech industry where we see a talent shortage, it’s important for employers to stay competitive,” said Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada. “Our data gives insight into the market and shows that the highest-paid tech jobs in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver respectively are software engineering manager, software architect and software engineering manager.”
In May, Indeed released a report finding that nine of the top 10 best jobs in Canada are in the tech sector, with machine learning engineer, full stack developer, and DevOps engineer making up the top three positions.
