RED Academy brings introductory courses to student entrepreneurs at Ryerson University

RED Academy and Ryerson University’s Launch Zone, an on-campus hub that teaches students essential skills needed to become entrepreneurs, have announced a partnership to help grow student entrepreneurship.

Ryerson’s Launch Zone will host five introductory courses led by RED Academy instructors to teach students about web development, user experience, user interface design, and digital marketing. Student entrepreneurs will also gain access to RED Academy’s UI and UX designers and developers, as well experts from outside of the university.

“RED enables our students to identify what they are passionate in while also providing real life experiences.”

“Partnering with RED Academy was an important step for us as we focus on helping our students prepare for the entrepreneurship ecosystem,” said David Kwok, the programs and community coordinator at the Launch Zone. “RED enables our students to identify what they are passionate in while also providing real life experiences through experiential learning. We feel that integrating the RED Academy brand with the Ryerson ecosystem will only create a stronger support system of innovation.”

RED Academy is working towards improving its program to help entrepreneurs and developers become more comfortable with both back-end and front-end technologies. The school’s COO Matt Parson, says that about 90 percent of tech startups fail within the first five years, and to prevent this from happening, it’s essential to give entrepreneurs the resources and mentorship they need to succeed within the ecosystem.

“Canadian entrepreneurs need support, mentorship, and resources on how to succeed in this competitive field,” said Parson. “Partnering with a progressive university like Ryerson who recognizes the needs of their students is a huge thrill for us, and will help us continue our mission to drive tech innovation in Canada.”

RED Academy and Ryerson will offer several events to the public to engage the startup community. RED Academy’s first introductory courses will take place from October 26th to November 23rd and are open to Ryerson students and the public. Students interested in taking the courses can register here.
