Saint John, New Brunswick-based accelerator Propel has announced its selection of 32 companies for its cohort of Phase 2 of Incite. The selected companies, which mostly come from Atlantic Canada, is said to be Propel’s biggest cohort yet for its virtual accelerator.

The companies selected for Phase 2 include seven from New Brunswick, nine from Newfoundland, 11 from Nova Scotia, four from PEI, and one from Quebec. The accelerator will pair early-stage tech companies with a coach and give them access to mentors and experts.
“We are extremely pleased with the companies we’ve chosen for this cohort,” said Propel CEO Barry Bisson. “We are confident this cohort boasts many of the most promising startups in our region and we cannot wait to work with them.”
The seven-month program is said to focus on accelerating sales by building a scalable and repeatable sales process using the method of GrowthX, a Silicon Valley-based organization that works with startups, companies and countries to help “commercialize innovation.” Propel has regional exclusivity agreements to use GrowthX’s programming, which is centred around an online learning platform.
One of the startups participating in the cohort is FoodByte, a Nova Scotian SaaS company that aims to provide tools to help food processors generate and manage food safety plans. The company aims to help other companies improve their business performance and overcome food safety compliance barriers. Also part of the cohort is ShopLaw, a community of Atlantic Canadian lawyers aiming to help clients find the right lawyer and provide free answers to legal questions.

Phase 2 of Incite gives companies access to funding opportunities, including a $50,000 simple agreement for future equity (SAFE) investment from NBIF and Innovacorp, $25,000 cash prize with an additional $30,000 investment for the winner of the Gerry Pond Sales Award, and an investment readiness workshop. Propel will host an investor-only demo day for Phase 2 companies in spring 2020.
