Piinpoint helps companies like Tim Hortons predict their future

Small or medium-sized business owners expanding operations might feel like they have to play a guessing game when it comes to finding the perfect location, but a Kitchener-based company is trying to give these businesses the keys to making informed decisions.

Pitching on The Disruptors, PiinPoint’s co-founder Jim Robeson explained how their platform helps businesses find the best locations for expansion using analytics like demographics, traffic data, and available real estate. The platform can even predict a store’s sales performance in certain locations within 24 months.

“We take all this information and turn it into a comprehensive report,” said Robeson. “We want to be the most accurate location data provider to help small and medium businesses expand.”

While the company targets SMBs, they realized that this is also a pain point for large enterprises, brokerages, and land developers, and built a proprietary data platform targeted to these groups. PiinPoint currently works with brands like Tim Hortons and Colliers International.

Co-host Amber Kanwar said that it’s the perfect example of a company that knows that there is so much available data that could help businesses — but is the only one taking the initiative to put it together. “One of our themes is how do you take mountains of useless data and turn it into useful data?” she said.

While co-host Bruce Croxon said he wasn’t sure if there aren’t other companies doing the same, he said that “it’s the first time that I’ve heard about this application, and I like it.”
