OMERS Ventures announces intention to expand into Europe and Asia

Canadian venture fund OMERS Ventures said it plans to expand into Europe and Asia in a Medium post published today.

Earlier this year, OMERS Ventures announced intentions to open an office in Silicon Valley to boost its portfolio of US companies. The firm is currently in the process of building that team, as well as its Europe operations, which will be based in London, UK. It will share updates on OMERS Ventures Europe in the “coming months.”

“We have identified the growing European market as an attractive investment opportunity for OMERS,” OMERS said in its post. “The UK, Germany, and France have emerged as key markets with world-class technology ecosystems with many other European cities not far behind.”

The investment firm said that once it builds its Europe team, it will pursue OMERS Ventures Asia, likely based in Singapore, where it already has a headquarters.

OMERS Ventures currently manages over $800 million in assets with investments across Canada and the US. Its latest fund, valued at $300 million, closed in May 2017.
