MaRS and EDC announce new program for startups expanding internationally

MaRS Toronto

Toronto innovation hub MaRS Discovery District (MaRS) and Export Development Canada (EDC), a crown corporation, announced a new partnership today to help Canadian science and technology companies expand internationally.

MaRS and the EDC have also developed and released a country guide to the United Kingdom.

The two organizations will develop a program dubbed the International Solutions Suite, a portfolio of services to help Canadian tech companies identify and explore global markets. Market intelligence and research reports, events and workshops, and direct connections to local experts are some of the offerings MaRS and the EDC are hoping to provide.

“Early-stage companies have the appetite to go global but need additional support with their international strategy, finding customers, accessing growth financing, maintaining cash flow, and more,” said the EDC’s Catherine Decarie in a statement.

The announcement was made in conjunction with an event hosted at MaRS, featuring representatives from the EDC, as well as Scott Bagby, co-founder and CEO of A Retail Space, and Josephine Coombe, chief marketing officer, at Nulogy.

As part of the partnership, MaRS and the EDC have also developed and released a country guide to the United Kingdom, covering business regulations, taxes, and other information pertinent to Canadian startups.
