Toronto-based Logojoy has officially rebranded to Looka and is expanding its product offerings to reach beyond logo creation.

“As we grew Logojoy, we discovered that entrepreneurs were looking for a one-stop shop to get all the branding assets.”

The AI-powered logo designer has decided to switch things up in the hopes of becoming more than simply a platform for logos. Along with a new name, Looka is rebranding with its own new logo and website, which went live today. The company has also decided to expand its product offerings with brand packages that include logo files, brand guidelines, social media assets, and business card designs.

“As we grew Logojoy, we discovered that entrepreneurs were looking for a one-stop shop to get all the branding assets necessary to launch their business. We decided to start serving this need, but quickly realized that our name was pigeonholing us as just a logo maker,” said Dawson Whitfield, CEO and co-founder of Looka. “With our new brand, we’re well-positioned to grow our product offerings to include the many types of design that entrepreneurs need throughout their business journey.”

The company, founded in 2016, stated that its rebrand was informed by a survey that it conducted of visitors to its website. Looka surveyed visitors from its four largest markets, Canada, the US, UK, and Australia. It found that users wanted more than just logos. Within a year of getting their logo, 51 percent of founders surveyed wanted to create business cards, 40 percent wanted to create websites, and 20 percent wanted to create brand guidelines.

Along with the company rebrand, Looka is releasing a website builder product through a partnership with Weebly. Looka stated this it is in a position to offer a more cost-effective than using a crowdsourced design site and more custom than using standardized templates. Its website stated that it is offering a “drag-and-drop website builder” but didn’t provide any further detail on how the website design will work.

In November, Looka raised a $6 million CAD Series A round led by Real Ventures to help it ramp up development of its platform. It planned to use the funding to expand its design and machine learning capabilities, which include investing in its AI that can create custom symbols, fonts, and graphics.

Looka also noted at the time that it wanted to become an “all-purpose” design platform. It noted that it was expanding its automated design platform and Whitfield stated that Looka was “creating the drag-and-drop interface” to offer flexibility for its users.

The design platform also raised $900,000 in a seed round that denoted its first-ever round of financing. Since its launch in 2016 Looka has been used by 3.3 million entrepreneurs and stated that it has sold more than $8.1 million CAD worth of logo packages.

Looking to continue its growth, Looka plans to grow its team from its current 37 employees to 60 by the end of the year and plans to move into a new 8,500-square-foot office in Toronto on May 1.
