Lighthouse Labs giving back with charity hackathon

A big part of startup culture is giving back, and next weekend, Lighthouse Labs is embracing that notion with a for-charity hackathon in Vancouver.

At Code It Forward, 100 of Vancouver’s brightest developers and designers are gathering for 36 hours to help Vancouver charities with out-of-date technology. The event is meant to give the organizations ways to help as many people as possible while inspiring techies to get involved.

“These organizations are using inadequate, out-of-date systems, and as a result, aren’t helping as many people as they could. We want to bring together Vancouver’s tech community to give creative innovative technologies that will benefit them for years to come,” says Code It Forward’s website. “We want to make a statement to Canada that a hackathon can create genuine social good, and establish a tradition that will inspire hundreds of developers nationwide to participate.”

Some of the charities involved with the hackathon include Canucks Autism Network, BC Lung Association and The Lipstick Project. While Lighthouse Labs is hosting Code it Forward, Auro, Microsoft and Square are sponsoring it. The hackathon will be held on July 25th and 26th.
