Cashless payment specialist Intellitix Technologies has acquired a majority stake in Edmonton-based CrowdBlink, an event management platform company. Exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“CrowdBlink will be taking full advantage of these resources and expertise as we develop the platform.”

CrowdBlink helps event organizers with ticketing, access control, and cashless payments through a mobile platform. Intellitix provides radio frequency identification (RFID) access control and cashless payment solutions at events, such as Tomorrowland, San Diego Comic-Con, BlizzCon, and others.

Intellitix said the deal will facilitate the implementation of more lightweight event technology, through the use of CrowdBlink’s all-in-one mobile platform, which offers ticketing, access control, and cashless event payments. Intellitix claimed it was attracted to CrowdBlink because of what it has planned for its next phase of development.

“I was very impressed with CrowdBlink,” said Carlo Chiarello, CEO of Intellitix. “They have an innovative product already, but once I saw what they had in their product roadmap I knew they were going to truly disrupt the industry.”

While he did not disclose exactly what that road map would look like for CrowdBlink, president Jeff Jessamine said CrowdBlink plans to leverage Intellitix’s team and global infrastructure to scale rapidly.

“CrowdBlink will be taking full advantage of these resources and expertise as we develop the platform and pave the way for the next generation of event technology,” added Jessamine, who will continue in his role as president of CrowdBlink.

Through its platform, Intellitix aims to increase event revenue, secure events, and streamline guest experiences. The company has processed over $1 billion in cashless payments and improved the experience of over 40 million event attendees since launching in 2011.

In 2015, Intellitix launched a thermal waterproof RFID wristband that can be printed at the moment of purchase at a venue Box Office. The InstaBand, as it is called, uses Intellitix’s technology into reserved seated environments of permanent venues and stadiums, and links directly to the ticketing software of the venue.

Intellitix’s wristband system has also been used by festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Tomorrowland, Way Out West, The PGA Irish Open, UEFA Champions Festival, Outside Lands, and Electric Zoo.
