How Flinks plans to beat Plaid on its own turf

Valley-based FinTech unicorn Plaid has been in the news a lot lately, after a $5.3 billion sale to Visa fell through in January, and this week’s $425 million funding round in response, which now values the company at $13.4 billion.

“We want to make a 10-year vision into a two-and-a-half-year vision with money.”

But we’re not here today to talk about Plaid. We’re here to talk about Montreal-based Flinks, which is preparing to truly take on Plaid in the US market. Flinks raised a $16.2 million CAD round last year to do just that.

Now, factoring in CAD-USD exchange rates, $16 million is not quite $425 million. But according to founder and president Frédérick Lavoie, Flinks can win this fight.

How? Positioning. Better tech. And perhaps most interestingly, the right culture.

Oh, and they’re definitely raising another round.
