Golden Ventures partner Ameet Shah explains the currently “hot” VC market

Our very first episode of Black Swan, released in March, featured a Canadian VC. At the time, the conversation wasn’t focused on dealfow, but survival. What could founders do to keep their companies alive?

“The market’s been weird. It’s hot for some.”
– Ameet Shah

Five months later, things have changed. A recent CVCA report says Canadian venture capital saw a new record in Q2 of 2020, despite COVID-19. At BetaKit, we’ve certainly reported on an increasing and surprising number of deals for this time of the year.

Just last week, a VC told me that it’s the “hottest market [he’s] ever seen right now, which makes no sense.”

So what the hell is going on?

That VC, Ameet Shah, Partner at Golden Ventures, joins to discuss rising dealflow, shifting round focus, and increasing interest from US VC’s in the Canadian tech ecosystem.
