Returning for its third year, Elevate is now simply too big for one event guide. So BetaKit has produced a guide to every event and stage taking place across the seven-day festival. You can find a link to each individual guide on our Guide to Elevate 2019 hub page.
Technology is driving one of the most pronounced periods of rapid change for a new generation. Young people today are the most connected generation in history, with constant exposure to content and entertainment. They are also the ones leading the conversation in many ways, from gender identity and sexuality, health and wellness, and evolving politics.
“I like to say, ‘Others report on the news. We make it.’”
– Rich Antoniello
At the Design Exchange, Elevate New Media will connect entrepreneurs, influencers, and media thought leaders on how to leverage youth culture, and how major trends take root.
Rich Antoniello, CEO of Complex Media, will kick off the day to share his story of turning a one-time fashion magazine into a multimedia giant with almost 200 million followers that sees 810 million views a month.
“Others report on the news. We make it,” Antoniello likes to say. In the same vein, Kevin Ma, who founded Hypebeast in 2005, will explain how he discovered the sneaker blog he wrote from his bedroom could be turned into a global brand.
Elevate New Media will also feature Christian Kurz, SVP Global Consumer Insights at Viacom, the world’s ninth-largest broadcasting, cable, and media company. Attendees can also brush shoulders with Toronto-born Brooke Lynne Hytes, second-place finisher in RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11.
For founders and entrepreneurs, Elevate New Media provides a keyhole view into the next generation. For media lovers and influencers alike, the day will provide a look at how technology and social media will continue to drive culture.
