Conversations about artificial intelligence are often focused on future promise – the world that AI will build. Those conversations too often ignore the current state of AI products being built, shipped, and sold today.

Taking place at the MaRS Discovery District, Elevate AI will investigate the commercialization and responsible use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning right now. Academics, AI founders, and corporate leaders will also discuss the Canadian AI ecosystem, and the roles the public and private sectors must play to develop and maintain Canada’s AI advantage.
The day will feature keynote presentations from Ed Clark, the former President and Chief Executive Officer of TD Bank Group, as well as the Board Chair of the Vector Institute, and Raquel Urtasun, Chief Scientist at Uber ATG, and Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Following a keynote on investing in Canadian innovation, Clark will lead an honest conversation with the Vector Institute’s Paige Dickie on the challenges in building a national AI ecosystem that can compete on the global stage.
Returning to the stage following her keynote presentation in Elevate AI’s inaugural year, Urtasun will have significant updates to share. Two years of working with Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group has led to many developments and a few setbacks in its mission to put fully autonomous vehicles on public roads.
“There is no algorithm out there for doing self-driving cars at scale,” Urtasun told BetaKit earlier this year. “We are developing the next generation of AI algorithms.”
