Ontario Securities Commission hosting hackathon tackling challenges in the province’s regulatory environment

The Ontario Securities Commission announced that it’s hosting the first hackathon by a securities regulator in Canada.

Between November 25-27 at Bitmaker Labs, RegHackTO is inviting developers, designers, and strategists to collaborate on solutions to shared challenges in the regulatory environment. “The financial services regulatory environment is becoming increasingly complex,” the OSC said on the hackathon website. “Solutions that help streamline the regulatory environment are beneficial not only for regulators, but also for the regulated organizations and even for the economy as a whole.”

Individuals or teams of up to six members can participate in RegHackTO. Submissions will be judged by a panel including Maureen Jensen, Chair and CEO of the OSC, Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys and Ethereum, and other industry experts.

The OSC has been eager to collaborate with the startup community as of late, as it announced that it was looking for experts to join its FinTech advisory community, and created OSC LaunchPad with the purpose of helping startups navigate regulatory frameworks.

To register, those interested in participating should send an email with full contact details to vmalloy@osc.gov.on.ca.
