Right now, Empty Cubicle is looking for a .NET lead developer. We talked to community manager Nicole Rose about the best parts of working there.
If someone were to come in to work for Empty Cubicle on their first day, what’s the first thing you tell them to get them excited to work there?
Empty Cubicle is building a very distinctive HR technology which we speak to in the interview process but canât fully share until you join. So on day one, weâre pretty excited to share everything with you. Your role is particularly important in building our vision because weâre early on in our development process. Weâre also excited to be growing as a team. Weâre a small but mighty group that wants to build something great and have fun doing it.
What are some company perks that people can expect when working at Empty Cubicle?
Weâre really early stage and know the kind of team and culture we want to build that will include all of the fun stuff. Right now weâre focused on offering a great work experience, unique work and access to latest software and development tools out there. Our people are great too! Our Founder and CEO, Eric Riz, has long established relationships in the technology space and is a global thought leader. He delivers keynotes on business and technology all around the world. So itâs really important to him that the team has direct access to the best technology. And we do have access to some of the best. We focus on outcomes and results so we can have a flexible workplace â get it done, donât let the team down and make sure you do what you need to do to have a life outside of work.
When working as part of the developer team, what kind of problems could the .NET Lead Developer expect to tackle? What makes the team so dynamic?
This is a tricky question for us to answer because so much of what weâre working on is confidential right now. Your role is the cornerstone of our dev team, and youâll have the opportunity to build out the team. We have a solid vision of where weâre going, and weâre excited to have a Lead Developer join us to deliver it. At the same time, you wonât be completely on your own â youâll work with off-shore and out-of-office uber-experts in the field. Ideally, we would love to hire someone who has built a team before â itâs a great opportunity to put a really important stamp on who we are as a company and what itâs like to work here.
In what ways do you help to foster personal and/or professional growth in your team?
We try not to make things complicated. For us itâs simple â we want to know whatâs important to you personally and professionally. What do you want to achieve or learn in both your personal and professional life? The Empty Cubicle team will figure out how to support that. We also have a detailed education plan for our developers in order to support them. Itâs about getting stuff done, but also having a life outside of work. Also, as a company, weâre part of the Upside Foundation, which believes in giving back to the community. This truly is one of our fundamental values.
What’s your favourite part about working with the Empty Cubicle team?
There isnât one single aspect about this team that is my favourite. We support each other, we have an open-concept working environment, and weâre growing. As a start-up, we may not have a lot of the bells and whistles that larger companies haveâŠyet⊠but we do make sure we have fun. I think most importantly, there are so many learning opportunities and weâre doing something cool which is really what gets me up in the morning.
