At the latest edition of TechTO, Fiix Software CEO Marc Castel spoke strongly about how nurturing great people creates “phenomenal outcomes,” and how “it’s not about technology, it’s not about your stack, it’s not about the cool widgets you’re creating – it’s about people.”
In his talk, Castel focused on how companies should be putting more energy in not only hiring strong employees, but also how they treat current employees. According to Castel, companies are quick to say they have an A team, but aren’t quite honest enough with themselves to admit that they, in fact, have a B team or even a C team.
“You need to be very careful about who you bring into your business,” Castel cautioned. “The good people are watching.”
He also had high praise for millennials, calling them “some of the hardest workers and the best employees I’ve had in my career.” Castel went on to emphasize that it’s up to the manager to find out what millennials want, instead of trying to force them into a way of thinking that may be outdated to them.
“They want to do something that changes the world and makes a difference,” he said. “It’s not good enough anymore just to get a paycheque.”
