Canada FinTech Forum seeing 10 startups pitch for $230,000 in prizes

Finance Montréal will be hosting the sixth edition of the Canada FinTech Forum from October 29 to 31 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

As part of the event, The FinTech Start-up Pitch Contest will give ten finalists the opportunity to present their companies to the financial services community and investors, who share close to a total of $1 billion in assets under management. The contest winners will share $230,000 in prizes, including a $15,000 public’s choice prize offered by Mackenzie Investments, a $15,000 in-kind communication services prize offered by Edelman Montreal, two Jury prizes of $25,000 each offered by Finance Montréal, and a $150,000 financing offer from Luge Capital.

This year, the contest selection committee received nearly 120 applications from all over the world, up 300 percent compared with last year.

“The Canada FinTech Forum’s rapid expansion reflects the general public’s and industry professionals’ growing interest in financial technology. It’s a clear signal that technology’s critical role in transforming financial services is being recognized,” said Matthieu Cardinal, Finance Montréal’s VP of FinTech development and corporate affairs.

  • More than 70 speakers will discussing this year’s theme of Open Innovation in Financial Services. Janet Yellen, who served as chairman of the board of governors of the federal reserve system, will kick off the event.

    Honorary president of the 2018 Canada FinTech Forum, Paul Desmarais III, the senior vice-president of Power Corporation of Canada, will also be speaking during the event. “The Canada FinTech Forum is an essential event in the financial technology sector,” he said. “In addition to its conferences and activities, it provides the ideal setting for start-ups and investors to network and do business.
