Toronto-based 500px, wich rebranded last month, has seen massive success and also an enormous amount of transition in its short history. Founded in 2009 and originally housed in Ryerson University’s Digital Media Zone (DMZ), the company recently raised $13 million Series B from Visual China Group, which brought its total funding to-date to $23 million.

Today, 500px announced it has hired Kelly Thompson, the former COO of Getty iStock and SVP of Getty, to help grow its licensing business. Thompson will be in charge of expanding 500px’s Growing Marketplace and also develop new products and services for the company, specifically into the enterprise market.

Andy Yang, CEO Of 500px, said, “we’ve only begun to scratch the surface when it comes to tapping the potential of 500px’s marketplace. Kelly will be instrumental in leading our initiatives to increase our market position in photo licensing both by growing our client base and helping to guide the marketplace’s product direction to better service these customers.”

500px now represents the work of over 6 million professional photographers who have uploaded over 55 million images. The company has its head office in Toronto, with offices in San Francisco and New York City.
