UGO thinks payments aren’t enough for mobile wallet adoption

Tech journalist and TV personality Amber Mac was all over Dx3 2015, interviewing founders and senior execs from some of Canada’s top digital businesses live from the Dx3 show floor about the obstacles and opportunities shaping the industry. As a media sponsor for Dx3 2015, BetaKit has been selected to share these interviews, courtesy the fine folks at EY Canada.

Launching in November of last year, UGO boldly proclaimed itself to be Canada’s first open mobile wallet. Recently launching on iPhone, UGO allows Canadians to add not only credit cards, but physical loyalty cards to their digital wallet.

Facing stiff competition from the impending launch of Apple Pay in Canada, UGO’s loyalty support may be a key differentiator. But as Salim Jivraj, UGO’s VP of Product Strategy, tells Amber, UGO believes that support beyond payments is a requirement for digital wallets to catch on.

“We are looking to transform all aspects that you find in your physical wallet into the digital domain,” Jivraj said. “I think that the true differentiator in the promise to deliver on value is when we can get payments, loyalty, and the other aspects into your wallet, into your smartphone.”

Dx3 is back March 2 and 3, 2016 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Interested in having your company profiled on the Dx3 2016 Canadian Tech Spotlight? Fill out this form to apply!
