Toronto-based Therapia, which provides a platform for physiotherapy on demand, has raised a $750,000 seed round.
Therapia plans to use the funding to grow their network of physiotherapists in the GTA, and expand across Canada within two years starting in Vancouver.
The funding round was led by a group of unnamed stakeholders in the healthcare space, including Dr. Anthony Romeo, who is in the presidential line for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons society and a surgeon for the Chicago White Sox.
“Technology has really changed the way we interact with our healthcare providers, and Therapia is just one example of how healthcare is moving into the home,” said Romeo. “We invested in Therapia because we recognize the potential the platform has to not only improve the patient experience, but to ensure that all North Americans have access to affordable and accessible physiotherapy.”
Six entrepreneurs with healthcare backgrounds founded Therapia to address the issue of patients having to take care of their condition after they leave the hospital. Barriers to maintaining the course of their treatment include proximity to clinics, reliance on loved ones to drive to and from appointments, and cost.
“Healthcare is moving into the home and we’ve seen a growing demand for a service like Therapia in the GTA,” said Adam Brown, registered physiotherapist and co-founder of Therapia. “Feedback from the healthcare industry has been overwhelmingly positive, and we plan to use this funding to grow our network here, and to bring Therapia to more Canadians.”
All physiotherapists on the platform are registered and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists in Ontario. Patients can pay for their appointment online, and the platform uses a star rating for each physiotherapist.
