Startupfest doubles pitch prize money to $200,000

Montreal StartupFestival 2015

Somehow, summer has progressed to the point where Startupfest – Canada’s premiere startup event, and essentially summer camp for the Canadian startup community – is less than two weeks away.

If you were still on the fence as to whether or not you should attend, the Startupfest organizers made a new announcement today that might put you over: the Startupfest investment prize has been doubled from $100,000 to $200,000 this year.

Startupfest operates a little differently from most startup events, and so does their prize money. Here’s how they described it today:

“One startup may walk away with all of it, or two may split it. It’s up to you to convince the judges. You do not need to apply for this prize, you just need to find the investor judges in the “$200k Prize” tent in the Tent Village- or track down one of the judges onsite during the event (They’ll be wearing a Judge badge).”

Startups will have until 5pm on Thursday, July 14th, to convince at least one of the Startupfest judges that the cash belongs with them. Shortlisted startups will be invited to a pitch breakfast the next day, with winners announced Friday afternoon. Those interested should start memorizing the judge list right now.

Longstanding or first-time attendees should also read our interview with founder Philippe Telio on Startupfest’s five new Premium Fests taking place during the week.

Not from Montreal and looking for transportation to Startupfest? Might we recommend the Startup Train?
