Square appoints Cathy Vigrass to lead Canadian operations

Square, the popular mobile commerce platform developed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, has been live in Canada since October 2012. The company recently went public and shares are currently trading at $10.25, representing a market cap of $3.368B.

Today, Square announced it has appointed Cathy Vigrass as Head of Canada Operations. Vigrass was recently the Head of Business Operations at concierge service Sosh. In her new role at Square, Vigrass will focus her attention on growing the number of Square sellers and services in Canada.

“Canada is a critical growth market, and a major opportunity for Square,” said Vigrass. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining Square, and I’m looking forward to working with our diverse sellers, innovative partners, and talented Canada team to continue making commerce easy.”

Square recently set up a permanent address in Kitchener and has another office in Toronto. The company has expanded since its entry in 2012 from 10 employees to now almost 50.

At the official opening of its K-W office, Square stated that sellers have facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in commerce in Canada with 20% of the nation’s small businesses using Square.
