Spark Centre accepting applications for $55,000 Ignite Competition

For the fourth year in a row, Spark Centre, which supports startups in Durham Region in Ontario, is accepting applications for its Ignite Competition.

The competition is open to startups across Canada. Two startups will be awarded $25,000 to use towards their businesses as well as free office space in The Loft. The startups will also join Spark Centre’s Thrive Accelerator Program, which offers advisory and business support services to achieve a faster market entry.

At the same time Ignite is also including its Student Entrepreneur category for a second year, giving away $5,000 to a post-secondary entrepreneur.

“Ignite was a great experience for us throughout the competition. Not only did we develop great contacts and start mentoring relationships that have helped drive our sales,” said Michael Chrostowski, president and CEO of Sound Options Tinnitus Treatments, which won the Ignite competition last year. “Winning Ignite also allowed us to create the momentum towards our entry into the US market.”

Applications are due by 5 p.m. on September 9, while student entrepreneur applications are due by September 16 at 5 p.m.
