Parsel’s Josh Brandley on the importance of building an entrepreneur support group

Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely endeavour, especially in the early stages when companies are still trying figure of what they are, or stay on track.

So Josh Brandley, co-founder and CEO of Parsel, stopped by #TechTO in December to talk about the importance of building an entrepreneur support group — a team of people to keep founders motivated.

Brandley stresses the importance of creating a team that will work hard and are willing to wear many hats. “Building a team is incredibly hard, because in order to have a business, you need UI, UX, front end development, back end development, architecture, infrastructure, sales, marketing, HR, finance,” he said. “In the real world that’s 12 positions, and you’re never going to launch a company with 12 people.”

Besides following leaders online to learn from them, Brandley also noted that a healthy amount of pressure is always helpful. “Take an investment from a friend, because you have to stare at this person every day for the rest of your life, and you don’t want to lose that guy’s money. You want to be a hero and make that guy money. Don’t be afraid to commit wholeheartedly to the business.”
