OMERS snapshot shows how much Canadian FinTech sector has grown in six months

OMERS Ventures FinTech infographic

As part of the MaRS FinTech cluster launch in February, Toronto-based VC firm Information Venture Partners released an infographic highlighting the growing momentum of the sector in Canada. Along with other surprising facts, IVP noted over 50 different FinTech startups across the nation.

What a difference six months makes. Today, Canadian VC giant OMERS Ventures released a similar infographic, tracking 89 different Canadian FinTech startups from Vancouver to St. John’s, essentially a 40 per cent increase. OMERS also noted that these 89 companies have attracted over $1 billion in capital since 2010.

In the post accompanying the infographic, OMERS noted that the FinTech sector will be a specific focus of its Fund II, for which it recently raised $260 million.
