Crowdmatrix explains how it’s democratizing investing on #TheDisruptors

Finding investors and raising sufficient funding to launch or scale an innovative product or service is a tough and time-consuming process. With that in mind, one Canadian startup has set out to provide a platform that makes this process easier for both startups and investors.

Crowdmatrix, the latest pitch on The Disruptors, is an online investment platform that connects accredited investors with growing startups seeking capital. On Crowdmatrix, venture capitalists and angel investors can specify how much they are interested in investing and learn about different companies’ teams, metrics, and deal terms; this helps them decide which companies they want to invest in.

“What Crowdmatrix is disrupting the existing inefficient processes to find capital, so we can use the internet to help investors find companies, and for the companies to find the funding that they need,” said Rubson Ho, the CEO and “chief crowd-pleaser” of Crowdmatrix.

Co-hosts Bruce Croxon and Amber Kanwar discussed with Peter Misek, a partner at BDC IT Venture Fund, about how online funding platforms like Crowdmatrix can be evaluated.

“If you look at what’s gone on in the last 10 years and you look at the number of accredited investors that have been successful in private markets, it’s not a high number,” said Misek, pointing to the fact that such platforms can provide accredited investors with a chance to democratize the investing process.
