Casalova wants its platform to make landlords and renters happy

Looking for a home to rent can be stressful for anyone, but few people think about the stress that landlords also go through trying to book appointments for viewings and figuring out which tenants will actually be a right fit.

Enter Casalova, the latest pitching company on The Disruptors trying to make life easier for both groups. Users can search through rentals online, book, and pay rent through the Casalova platform. Casalova hires professionals photographers to take photos of each space, and syndicates the information both on Casalova and partner sites.

For landlords, Casalova’s team of data scientists and machine learning specialists provide landlords with a tenant risk score, which lets landlords know if their tenants are high risk.

“Casalova is a real estate platform that’s transforming the rental marketplace through technology,” said Ray Taeeb, co-founder of Casalova.

Co-host Amber Kanwar said she felt cautious about the service, as she felt it creates a middleman rather than streamlining the rental process. “I think it’s still very engrained in people that they still go to realtors for this sort of thing, I don’t know that it’s really that much more convenient to actually search on the web for the place you’re going to live.”

On the flip side, co-host Bruce Croxon disagreed. “This particular industry is lagging behind, property managers had their fiefdoms that they were trying to hold on to, and technology was bad news for them,” Croxon said. “I think there’s a market opportunity here.”
